Trailmakers, from Flashbulb Games (who consist of Press Play, Rare, Square Enix, and CCP veterans) hit steam early access last week with the vehicle-building adventure inviting players to a distant alien planet, making it their own vehicular playground.

Players are encouraged to create any and every vehicle that comes to mind and explore the alien world on their own or with friends however, I personally feel the fun of Trailermakers will be maximised when played with friends.

Whether you want to race across the land, find the best area for stunts or perhaps find hidden little corners of the planet, Trailmakers will give you the freedom to do so. From wheels to wings and an easy-to-use interface at your disposal nothing is out of your reach.

Of course, each part used in the construction of your vehicle will have its own physical rules and attributes including shape, weight and so on.

Have you ever thought about piloting a cannon-powered X-Wing or a cannon-powered ANYTHING? Well you can do just that and if your vehicle is successful (or not) you can save the blue prints and even share them with friends.

Trailmakers gives the player three modes to choose from: Expedition Mode, Sandbox Mode and Dethrone mode.

Expedition mode is a single-player mode in which you are challenged to reach the other side of the island however, the catch is that you are only provided with the bare essentials: 4 wheels, 1 seat, 1 frame and 1 engine.

As you venture through you will find resources and parts scattered across the alien planet. Beware some areas will be quite challenging and require certain kinds of vehicles and/or vehicle modifications… if you can find them!

What if I want to play Expedition mode with my friends? Keep your eyes peeled as there will be an update which will allow up to four friends to create, explore and overcome obstacles in the midst of all the chaotic shenanigans.

If you feel that Expedition mode isn’t enough for the endless creativity you hold then you’re in luck. Sandbox mode allows up to four players, providing you with plenty of resources and limitless options from walking tanks to car that can transform into a robot.

Whether you’re a road hog, an aerial ace pilot, a blunderbuss sailor or anything in-between you can create to your hearts content.

If you and your friends like to build together and get competitive, Dethrone mode, is an explosive combination of capture-the-flag and king-of-the-hill in the Early Access version. Flashbulb’s “Physics-Over-Network” technology synchronizes crashes for up to four players, so each participant sees the same glorious explosions.

More multiplayer modes, new skins and vehicle parts are currently in development and will be introduced in the future.

Trailmakers is currently available to play in 11 different languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Danish, and Polish for $19.99 (USD) / €19.99 / £14.99.
