Almost every strong character in the Dragon Ball universe has some sort of strong transformation, however, not everyone relies on them. There are many other ways to become powerful, with these being the six best power-up techniques in Dragon Ball.
Both Gohan and Krillin undergo this awakening on Namek, with Lord Guru releasing their inner hidden powers. This power-up is a great way to become stronger without the need for a transformation.
5. Max Power
This technique is only ever used by Master Roshi, which in theory all humans should be able to use. However, for some reason they don’t. This technique could be considered a transformation but it’s more like Roshi is tensing, rather than transforming.
Majin is a technique used by Babidi to control powerful fighters but it also increases their power incredibly. Babidi used this on Spopovich, Debura and Vegeta, as well as a number of other characters.
Goku learned this technique from King Kai and it was vital in the early days of Dragon Ball Z before the SuperSaiyan forms were invented. However, it is now relevant again in Dragon Ball Super, with Goku being able to mix it with his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan transformation.
The only known user of this power-up is Gohan and it was given to him by the Old Kai, who was sealed away due to Beerus’ fear of its capabilities. This technique can work for anyone and once it has been unlocked, the power is theirs forever.
1. Ultra Instinct
This is the newest power-up in Dragon Ball Super, with Goku recently unlocking it and Beerus also being able to use it. Technically anyone can achieve this but it takes years of mental and physical training, with it being incredibly hard to attain. In addition, it is believed the angels in Dragon Ball Super can all use Ultra Instinct.
