The Nintendo Switch is getting an update to its online service regarding its retro games but it doesn’t seem to be like what the Virtual Console was, instead it seems to not be a proper replacement like we expected.
It seems Nintendo is doing some different things for the Switch in regards to its old games, with the new program to be added. It seems like we will be getting some free old classics with it. Famitsu interviewed a member of Nintendo where it was stated that “Classic Games Selection (definitive name to be announced) is different from the Virtual Console”. He also added that the virtual console games is still “undecided” to be scheduled.
The Classic Games Selection is set to give old titles for free for online Nintendo service subscribers while the virtual console is said to remain the same. There’s still a small sense of hope that it’ll be released. Even though Nintendo hasn’t said much over the Switch’s lifespan, it has only been out for a few months and the company is sure to bring many updates and apps to the console.
Even if there was to be a release of the Virtual Console of the system there is the previous consoles like the 3DS, Wii U and Wii that many fans have downloaded games onto and who knows if there will be transferrable data across to the new system. Hopefully we will find out soon.
