Nerds4LifeBlog was lucky enough to sit down and have an exclusive chat with one of Japans greatest voice actresses in history, Masako Nozawa, during Melbourne’s pop-culture expo Supanova.
The voice actress who’s fame derives through her many years of work on the Dragon Ball franchise as Goku, Gohan, Goten and Goku Black, is also well known for her work on Astro Boy, One Piece, Digimon, Naruto and multiple video games.
During the convention Nozawa stated, that she is far from retirement and that she will continue her works, which stretch back since the early 1960’s, until she is at least 100 years of age.
This will come as great news for Dragon Ball Super fans as Nozawa expressed her immense joy of the series returning in 2015, with the voice actress missing her time away from being Goku prior to that.
After all Goku is her favourite character that she has ever voiced, according to her interview with us. Although, it is Krillin who she adores the most out of Goku’s friends as he was there from the beginning.
But with such a long period of time away from being Goku and making new episodes, many fans may have assumed that it would have been difficult for her to step back into the role however; that was not the case.
In fact, Nozawa found it easy to return to not only being Goku but Gohan, Goten, Gotenks and of course the new evil Goku Black in Dragon Ball Super.
Then it occurred to us, it was the first time that Nozawa has had to voice Goku as evil in her entire career and no Turles doesn’t count.
It must have been difficult for the voice actress to see one of her’s and anime’s most loveable characters become evil. However, in a display of total professionalism, Nozawa completed the job easily and fantastically.
Remember, this is most likely due to her years of experience switching between Gohan and Goku, sometimes even doing so seconds apart in the same scenes.
Although, Nozawa enjoyed the challenge as this must have been difficult in the early stages of the series, as the two Saiyan’s have a range of unique characteristic differences.
Then finally what we have all been waiting for, if the Nozawa was to have one wish granted to her in real life by the Dragon Balls, what would it be? No, it wasn’t what Oolong first wished for back in the early days of Dragon Ball; instead showing us the Goku within her, if Masako Nozawa could have one wish of hers come true, it would be world peace.
In the end we have good news, as Masako Nozawa is still enjoying her incredible career and her time working on Dragon Ball Super therefore, fans should expect to be seeing her as our favourite characters for many years to come.
