This here is a question that has been bothering me for some time now, what would have happened to Obito had he survived the fourth great shinobi war?
As we see when Obito is finally saying goodbye after saving his friend Kakashi from Kaguya’s attack, Naruto tried desperately to save him, but to no avail.
So lets just say Naruto succeeded just as he did with Might Guy, what would have happened after that? Would he have been charged as a war criminal or pardoned similar to Orochimaru, Kabato and Sasuke?
We see in the recent episodes of Shippuuden, where Orochimaru explains to Sasuke why they were pardoned after the war, saying that its because of their help in the war and that the world may need them when no one else can help.
Essentially they can be used in the future, as their strength as dangerous as it is, can equally be as important in a time of crisis.
Though I feel as if Obito wouldn’t be able to get away with his actions as the others had, mainly because he caused just too many losses.
He started the fourth shinobi war, caused a mass amount of casualties, essentially controlled the Akatsuki, stole all the tailed beasts from each village, controlled and released the nine tails to run a muck in Konoha, which killed the 4th Hokage and assisted in the slaughter of all the Uchiha along with Itachi, and these are just the tip of the ice berg.
Yes in the end Kaguya couldn’t have been defeated without Obito’s help, but I don’t think one good deed can excuse him from a lifetime of crime.
But then again you never know, Orochimaru was too convicted of heinous crimes, killing hundreds of people for his disgusting research.
Plus we can’t forget that he caused the death of the fourth Kazekage and the third Hokage, caused a mass destruction and loss of lives in his attack of Konoha and was also momentarily a member of the Akatsuki as well.
Its actually quite surprising he was forgiven at all, regardless of the reasons; I thought he wouldn’t be able to return to the village, let a lone be pardoned of all crimes.
I suppose Orochimaru did reanimate the first four Hokage and helped with the fourth shinobi war, we also have to remember that he was a hero of the past from previous wars too, but still the legendary sannin’s crimes may have not been as major a Obito’s, but they were still unforgivable, well I thought so anyway.
Then there was Kabato’s crimes, being the right hand man of Orochimaru, a double agent for most villages and for Akatsuki members (who knows who he was actually fighting for) and finally reanimated countless legendary ninja from the past, who caused numerous casualties in the fourth war.
But I suppose if Orochimaru can be pardoned then so can Kabato, as most of their crimes were against Konoha, instead of the world like Obito, well apart from aiding Obito’s army that is.
Then lastly we have the only remaining Uchiha; Sasuke, who is also considered a criminal worldwide.
Sasuke however, played a direct role in the ending of the fourth war by helping to seal Kaguya, resurrected Orochimaru who in turn brought back the previous Hokage, killed both Itachi and Orochimaru when the world looked upon them as criminals of the highest order and released Orochimaru’s captives.
But then there are his crimes, such as abandoning his village to go join forces with one of the most wanted criminals in the world, briefly joined the Akatsuki, attacked the five Kage at the summit leading into the war, killed the future Hokage in Danzo (I know that we were happy about this but still, its kind of a crime) and then attacked Naruto and tried killing all the tailed beasts.
His crimes too were incredible in their own right, but they were still minor in comparison to the other three.
As we can see as large as these crimes were, they were still quite minor in comparison to Obito’s, buts tsill its hard to believe they were forgiven so easily, maybe everyone was just sick of the killing and it was easier to forgive and move on.
We must all also remember that Kakashi became the 6th Hokage shortly after the war, and so we must take into account that he wouldn’t want to see his friends rot in jail, or worse.
Which would have raised hope for Obito, but still that’s only one man against the world, and yes Obito may be still pardoned from Konoha, but it would take a lot of convincing to pardon him in all the other countries he hurt.
His efforts at the end of the war may have helped as they did for the other three wanted shinobi, but its uncertain if it would’ve been enough.
We have to remember that Obito’s crimes where at a level the made the others terrible acts look as small as swearing in public, and I doubt all the villages can forgive him for the incredibly large amount of lives lost.
Therefore, sadly I doubt Obito could have possibly been pardoned, as his crimes were too heinous, so maybe it was a good thing for him to perish a hero, rather than rot in jail or be executed as a criminal.
Who will be the next Hokage after Naruto? Find out here:
